The Purpose of the Bible
Now that we have a good understanding of the Bible's divine origins, we turn to the next question so many people ask, "What is the Purpose of the Bible?" What is it that God wanted to tell us? After all, no book has even been written that the author did not want to convey some message to the reader. The Bible does 7 major things for us:
|
Psalms 119:11 Thy word have
I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. |
|
Psalms 119:105 Thy word is
a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |
|
2 Timothy 3:15 And that
from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
|
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (16)
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (17) That
the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. |
|
1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: |
|
John 8:32 And ye shall know
the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |
|
James 1:21 Wherefore lay
apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the
engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. |
The Bible is indeed the most beautiful document ever created. It is far superior to any man-made book! Not only does the inspired word of God tells us about the origin of the Bible, it tells us that God had a purpose in sending it to us through the inspired writers of the first century. We now know that the Bible:
- Keeps us from Sin
- Lights our Way
- Enlightens Us
- Instructs Us
- Purifies Us
- Frees Us
- Saves Us
