What the Bible warns about!

Not only is the Bible full of the things that make man's life complete, but it also provides us with warnings of what happens to someone who does not obey God's word.   Many people think that the Bible is just one big love letter from God, and that is mostly true.  What they fail to see is that the Bible also contains stern warnings from God about what will become of us, should we fail him.

The Bible warns that:

We are not to add to, or subtract from God's Word
Notice that in all three verses on the right, the inspired writer warns those reading his words that nothing should be taken away or added to the word of God.  In Revelations, we learn that if we add to or take away from the things written there, the plagues of that book will be added to us as well.

We must not add to or take away from the Word of God, which is the Bible.
(Deuteronomy 4:2) Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

(Proverbs 30:6) Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

(Revelations 22:18-19) (18) For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (19) And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Do Not Substitute Human Ideas
Here is Christ is speaking, teaching that the Pharisees worship God in vain (that is, it does them no good) because that have substituted their teachings and creeds for God's commandments.  When we choose to substitute our own beliefs for God's commandments, we worship God in vain and have no hope of eternal salvation.
(Mark 7:7-9) (7) Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (8) For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. (9) And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
Preach and Teach Only God's Word
These two verses clearly teach that we must be ready in season and out of season and that when we speak, we must speak as God wants us to.  God wants us to speak as "oracles" of God.  This means that we must speak only what God has told us to speak through his word.  Nothing else will do!
(2 Timothy 4:2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

(1 Peter 4:11) If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Believe No Other Gospel
The Galatians were confusing many different teachings.  Paul had preached to them one thing and others had come to them after Paul left, preaching something different.   The Galatians were trying to do everything that everyone had told them.  But Paul said don't do it.  If anyone preaches anything that I haven't taught you (after all, he was taught by Christ himself), let that person be accursed.  He told them all throughout the book of Galatians that they were to have no other Gospel than the one he preached.

In fact Paul, in verse 6, said that by believing these additional things, the Galatians had removed themselves from the one, true gospel of Christ.  Also note that not even an Angel from Heaven (verse 8) had the authority to change Christ's gospel.
(Galatians 1:6-9)  (6) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: (7) Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. (8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (9) As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
His Word will Judge Us
Christ is speaking here.  He says clearly that if you don't obey the words he has spoken, you are in trouble in the last day.  That day he is referring to is the day of judgement.

What is good about this statement is this:  There are going to be no surprises for anyone on the last day.  The word He has given us is sufficient for our salvation.   If we heed His word, we have nothing to worry about.
(John 12:48) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

So, you see, the Bible warns us about these things:

  1. Do not add to nor subtract from the Bible.
  2. Do not substitute human ideas for God's commandments.
  3. Preach and teach only God's word.
  4. Believe no other Gospel.
  5. His word will judge us on the last day.

Now, let's summarize what we have learned in our first section..
