The Practice of Infant Baptism

Answer: By Brian Tipton

Do you practice infant baptism? Why or why not?

Thanks again for taking the time to ask a question about the bible. We believe the bible contains everything that mankind needs to know that pertains to God's will. In its pages, we can find the answer to any question regarding our relationship to God and his Son, Jesus Christ. We must look at it with unjaded eyes and be willing, before we look, to accept what it says.

You question was: Do you practice infant baptism? Why? Why not?

The answer is no, we do not practice infant baptism. I will now explain why in 3 parts:

1. Baptism's Purpose
2. The State of a Child at birth
3. The State of the heart at the time of baptism

The Bible teaches that:

1. Baptism is necessary for salvation (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Romans 6:3-6)
2. Those who believe and are baptized will be saved (Mark 16:16)
3. Baptism is for the remission of sins (Acts 2:28)
4. Baptism cleanses us and places us under God's umbrella of grace (Romans 6:1-14)
5. We are baptized into Christ. (Galatians 3:26,27)
6. Baptism washes away sins (Acts 22:16, I Peter 3:20-21)
