Why was John the Baptist beheaded?

Question:

Why was John the Baptist behead, I know according to Mark in the bible Herod asked the damsel to dance for him he told he would give her anything she desired if she danced.  She didn't  know what to ask for so she asked her mother, he mother told her to ask for John's the Baptist head on a sliver platter.  Why did the mother want him kill?

Answer: (Given by Bro. Winston Parkinson)

Herodias (the mother) wanted John the Baptist dead because he told Herod "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife". Mark 6:18 Herod and Herodias were married in the sight of man, but not in the sight of God and was thus living in sin. Herodias wanted John dead because he was exposing her sin.
